International Yoga Day

On 21 June 2021 “International Yoga Day” was observed at The Indian School-Second Shift in great enthusiasm. All the students of Pre – School to VIII participated in various activities throughout the day. The foremost priority in this hour of crisis is to provide a holistic approach to the health and well - being of our students, by keeping a healthy balance of mind and body. In order to be strong to face these tough times it is even more important to build immunity.

In the pursuit of the above, on the occasion of International Yoga Day, the students of Pre - School and Pre - Primary participated in a special yoga session wherein warm up exercises were done, and all the students performed various sitting and standing asanas. A video on the Suryanamashkar was also shown after which the students learned to perform the 12 step exercise on their own.

The primary wing observed the day with great enthusiasm too. Simple asanas like the Sukhasana, the Vajrasana, Titli asana and the rainbow pose were done by the children and their family members which helped in relax the mind and body. They thoroughly enjoyed the posture improvement poses and took a pledge to do yoga exercises on regular basis.

The teachers spoke about the importance of yoga in our lives. The children of the middle wing were excited and energetic to learn the yoga asanas. They started with meditation and did the Dhanur asan and the Trikon asan etc that require a lot of focus and balance. The students were shown videos sharing the importance of yoga. They discussed how yoga has helped millions of people during post Covid recovery.

Students attempted yoga with family members in the morning. Theye also had a meditation session during their online class. Students of class 6 acknowledged the importance of yoga as a traditional Indian method of keeping one’s heart, mind and soul in alignment while actively participating in yoga lessons demonstrated by teachers during online session. Various poses and their multiple advantages were also discussed in the form of a PPT in one of classroom discussions.

The celebration concluded with some breathing techniques and exercises like types of Pranayam, Anuloma and Viloma and laughter yoga. The students were encouraged to practice regular yoga to remain fit and improve concentration as all the classes showcased very energetic and spirited performances!
