International exchange n Skype with peers in Canada for classes 6A, 6B and 8A.
On 13 December 2022, the students of classes VI-A, VI-B and VIII-A of The Indian School-Second Shift participated in a Mystery Skype session with their peers at the Lucille-Teasdale School in Brossard, Canada for a cultural exchange. The session was conducted between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. IST.
The interaction commenced with formal introductions and ice breaking. Soon the two groups got busy framing questions that would lead them accurately guess each other's countries! Students on both sides were also excited to converse in French through the session! The meeting gained new momentum when Pawni Dawar of class VIA recited a poem named “ALOUETTE” in French.
The students in Montreal shared several French idiomatic expressions like [‘il fait frette’ which means it’s cold], and [ ‘il pleut a boire debout’ which means it's raining]. These are used locally and offered our students a flavour of the lingo used. As the session became more interactive, our students took the chance to speak to their counterparts about a celebrated Indian social worker, Padmashri Late Ms Sindhutai Sapkal and her noble contribution towards the rehabilitation of orphans.
The session concluded with thank you notes and greetings in French. It was a very enriching good experience for children to learn French in collaboration with the young francophones which actually sparked interest in adopting French more into their daily lives.3
