Honour at Mega Plastic Waste Collection Drive conducted under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and Forests

“ A clean environment is a human right like any other. It is, therefore, our responsibility to others to ensure that the world we pass on is as healthy, if not healthier than we found it.”

Dalai Lama

Committed to creating a cleaner and greener school, The Indian School-Second Shift is making continuous efforts to sensitise students, staff, parents and the community at large about their role in maintaining a clean and healthy environment through various programmes.

We have undertaken several initiatives to generate awareness among school children and the community to environment-related issues of concern, through various activities organised by the school. Environment awareness and consciousness are well reflected in our teaching-learning strategies.

As we know, plastic is a new generation material that is irreplaceable and should be used judiciously and then recycled. To continue with our endeavours, the school actively participated in the Mega Plastic Collection Drive in collaboration with ICPE ( Indian Centre for Plastic in the Environment) from 17th November to 10th December 2021. The ICPE, which was set up on the recommendation of a task force constituted by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF), is a body registered under the Societies Act on January 27, 1999. It is a nodal agency recognised by the Government of India to handle all issues relating to plastics and the environment across the country.

To give this drive, a wide-reaching impact, it encompassed the entire school.  To restrict plastic from being sent to landfills and junkyards, a collaborative effort of parents, teachers and the student community resulted in our School securing the Second Position in this drive. The School was felicitated in a virtual ceremony on 21st January 2022 with a shield and a certificate.

Acting Principal, Ms Sukhmeen Kaur Cheema was honoured for motivating everyone to participate actively in the drive. She shared her valuable experience  with the gathering. Ms Kanika Batheja, co-ordinating teacher was also complimented and presented a certificate for the same. All participants will receive an e-certificate for being a part of this Drive.

The joint effort by the parents, students and staff members of The Indian School-Second Shift towards this noble cause of environment conservation was a very successful one.
