Honour at INTER SCHOOL PUPPET STORYTELLING CONTEST

Storytelling is about connecting to other people and helping people to see what you see. – Michael Margolis.

Storytelling plays a very important role in the cognitive development of children and what better way to do it than using puppets.

Puppets can be used ‘anyway, anywhere and anytime’ to bring stories to life and to spark the imagination of young minds. When puppets appear, they change the entire vibe by creating more possibilities for creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and curiosity.

On 29 November 2020, students of The Indian School-Second Shift actively participated in an inter school Puppet Storytelling Competition. It was a moment of pride as we had four finalists from our School in the competition!  These four were amongst the top 20 children from different states who showcased their talent at the grand finale..

Ransher Sharma of class 3 left everyone in awe as he did exceptionally well while performing with puppets. His video was named the Lucky Draw entry from amongst all the other participants, which were from different states  across India.

The videos were adjudged by eminent personalities from the field of puppetry. Puppeteers like Dadi Pudumjee, Sangya Ojha, K. Rajeev and Shri. Ramachandra Pulavar were on the panel. They shared hands-on information on creating puppets and bona-fide techniques for playing puppets effectively. The secret of creating a puppet character was revealed. From puppeteers’ stance to puppets’ eye focus, lip sync, singing and dancing were taught to make the puppet character a living and breathing entity.

It was indeed a great learning opportunity for all of us. Can’t wait for next year’s event already!
