Hindi Diwas celebrations across the classes
“Rashtra bhasha ke bina aazadi bekar hai.” (Freedom without a national language is meaningless.)
– Avanindra Kumar Vidyalankar.
Hindi Diwas is observed annually on 14th September in the Hindi speaking states of India. This day is celebrated to commemorate the adoption of Hindi as one of the official languages of India. On the 50th birth anniversary of Beohar Rajendra Simha, on 14th September 1949, the combined efforts of the stalwarts of Hindi literature like Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Kaka Kalelkar, Seth Govind Das and Maithili Sharan Gupt bore fruit and the Constituent Assembly of India declared Hindi as one of the official languages under Article 343 of the Indian Constitution.

The Indian School-Second Shift has immense reverence for Hindi language and students always display great enthusiasm to make this day memorable. This year too, the children observed Hindi Diwas with immense zeal by participating in various activities like recitation, story-telling, Kabir ke Dohe Gayan, slogan writing, debate and other activities.
Class 1 participated in a story- telling session, where students got a chance to enjoy and share their understanding of the story, 'Chalak Lomdi'. Class 2 students recited Hindi poems with actions and enjoyed the rhymes. To enhance their understanding of Hindi grammar, the students of class 3 did a fun practical session on the topic 'kriya'. Students of class 4 wrote some innovative and unique slogans on Hindi Diwas, depicting the importance of Hindi, promoting the use of it in day-to-day life.
Class 5 students participated in ‘Kahani ki Rail’, whereby the students, divided into groups of five, developed the plot of a story on the spot by adding on lines to a given beginning of a story. It was great to see how the students volunteered very interesting and creative ideas!
Class 6 made posters on Hindi Diwas. A pledge to cherish and promote Hindi was taken by the students of class 7, and they promised to carry forward this legacy. They wrote their views on why Hindi needs to be promoted in our country and how we can achieve it. Class 8 made calendars with waste materials, in which they wrote slogans and 'sukti' in Hindi. They also presented 'Kabir ke Dohe' in class. A debate was conducted for the students of class 9 on the topic, ‘ Aao milkar karein vichar, matribhasha kyu hai laachaar?’
The celebration of Hindi Diwas was very enriching, engaging and fun-filled, and students imbibed what Shri Kamalapati Tripathi had once said, ' ..'.
