Halloween celebrated in Pre primary
Double, double toil and trouble ; Fire burn and cauldron bubble.
Cool it with a baboon’s blood ; Then the charm is firm and good.
- William Shakespeare
The Pre-Primary class of The Indian School-Second Shift geared up to celebrate the international festival Halloween virtually on 29th October, 2020. Commonly celebrated in the United States and Canada, Halloween is popularly referred to as ‘the scariest time of the year’!
Our assembly at School commenced with a brief welcome speech by Viraj. The class came dressed as ghosts, witches, vampires, bats etc., for the much anticipated celebration, all ready to go 'trick or treat'!
It is believed that the spirits of the dead came back to Earth to repossess the hearts and the homes where they lived! The celebration of Halloween is associated with the idea of good fortune.
Next the flamboyantly attired little ones in their scary best, floored their listeners with their oratory skills in the ‘Show and Tell’ activity. A story of Halloween narrated by their teacher introduced the children to why and how the festival came about.
The story, with its roots in ancient European traditions and folklore, told us how people light bornfires to ward off evil spirits.
Based on the popular tradition of Trick-Or-Treat and the 'creepy' setting of Halloween, the students presented a Halloween rhyme as a group.
Later the children learnt to craft paper pumpkins in class and sent pictures of these to their class teachers. Excited faces filled the screen as a sign of an engaging enrichment.
