Gandhi Jayanti activities across the classes
"Gandhi Jayanti is a reminder to be the change we wish to see in the world."
The significance of Gandhi Jayanti, celebrated on October 2nd every year, is to pay tribute on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Various activities such as prayer meetings, commemorative events, and cultural programmess are held across India and even other countries to honour the great leader.
At one such commemoration, Pre school children were educated about the Mahatma and the values he stood for. They enjoyed doing adorable craft related to Gandhiji's favourite 3 monkeys. The children also enthusiastically presented the timeless "Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram".
The children of Pre Primary had a joyful session making replicas of Gandhi Ji's three wise monkeys and sketching a charkha while learning about his teachings and principles. Class 1 learned about Gandhiji's life through an audio-visual presentation and crafted his iconic spectacles with play dough. They also recited a rhyme about the 'three wise monkeys'.
Students of class 2 spoke a famous quote of the Mahatma, 'Be the change you wish to see in the world.' They also crafted Gandhiji's spectacles in clay as they learned about his life and values. Class 3 also engaged with the story of the 'Three Wise Monkeys' and discussed Bapu's memorable quotes, while making bookmarks.
In class 4, students engaged in a thoughtful conversation about "How we can incorporate non violence in our everyday lives" as well as the 'significance of truth'. To celebrate Gandhiji and his principles, students of class 5 painted his portrait followed by a classroom discussion about his principles and ideals.
The objective of these activities was to educate students about the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi while motivating them to reflect upon his contribution and how it applies to their own lives.
