Filmit Workshop

Films, as we all know, are highly impactful and leave an everlasting impact on our subconscious minds. INTACH could not have thought of a better way to instil in our young learners a sense of connection with heritage except through this medium. A workshop for learners of classes VI to VIII was conducted on 26th and  29th  July 29, 2019, at INTACH. The Indian School-Second Shift participated in the same enthusiastically.

The two-day workshop comprised of ‘CONTENT WRITING’  and a ‘FILMIT  TECHNICAL workshop

On the first day, a couple of endearing short movies  were screened. Students were asked to speak about a prized possession at home which is more than fifty years old! The students promptly spoke of heirloom garments, to family recipes and even family customs which had been handed down by their grandparents. They were asked to spin a story around the item of heritage, to directed as a movie.

The resource person Mr Faisal later shared five important tips to be kept in mind, when making a movie. Conceptualise as a personal story and then present it as a visual he said. Drop the first eight ideas that come to your mind and think something of a ninth which will possibly be novel and ‘out of the box’! The topic  chosen should be something that will touch the heart. Remember that the film should stay with dealing with heritage all the way.

On the second day, learners were introduced to the power of sight and sound and the process of film making. It involves three stages  RESEARCH, SHOOTING and EDITING. The students were made aware of the various types of shots and angles. Tips were given on how to control and improve the sound while shooting. They were also taught the nuances of  using the movie making software.

The students returned excited and eager to start their film making projects without delay!
