Film making workshop by INTACH
At The Indian School-Second Shift we have always believed that learning is a continuous process. This time too students were put to learn something novel.
On 24th and 25th July, 2018, the students of class VI attended a workshop on film making. The FILMIT India workshop was organised by INTACH and The Helen Hamlyn Trust and it sought to teach the children to make short films on their own culture that can be shared through the internet with school children in other cities.
The workshop was held across two days. On Day 1 we had a content workshop and on Day 2 we had a technical session. The content workshop was conducted by content expert Mr. Faisal Alkazi and the technical session was taken up by Mr. Ankit Pogula and Ms. Shreya Kakria. The students were given a list of topics to focus on through the year.

As a part of the content workshop the students were explained the kind of topics they could take up for their films. They were also shown movie clips for a clearer understanding. The steps to create content were clearly demonstrated. It was an entirely interactive session where every student was given an opportunity to share ideas. Our young Foundationers said that they would like to choose a topic like, The secret door or The voice of the voiceless-Trees. Both ideas were appreciated and discussed. The students seemed excited and ready to take on this challenge!
As a part of the technical workshop the students were given hands- on training on how to capture film, how to add voice-over, some music and interviews etc. They were given detailed information about the software to be used and taught how to capture all angles. The steps to make a film were discussed.
It was wonderful to see the children holding up the camera, taking their shots and then presenting making their very own movie clips. They shot pictures in the cultural heritage room and made their movie of it. The children interviewed the head of the centre and added this to their clip.
The best part of the workshop was when the students got an opportunity to visit the INTACH lab where the works of restoration take place. They saw how old paintings are restored and they said they felt very good to see that our cultural heritage is being preserved.
All in all the two day workshop was very useful and ensured that students were well oriented with what they had been taken through. We hope to see our young minds coming up with some fine little films in the near future!
