Environment Week activities
It is our collective and individual responsibility to preserve and tend to the world in which we all live. Dalai Lama.
We must open young minds to think beyond the text book and become aware of the environment. They have to be enthused to realise that we, human beings are a part of a larger environment and both the source and cause of environmental pollution. They also need to realise that if the problem is caused by us, then we ourselves must find ways to save it.
In the Pre primary Department , The Indian School-Second Shift celebrated Environment Week to raise awareness about environmental issues and call for action. The week 11th to 15th July 2016 started with showing the children some interesting videos relating to how one must keep the environment clean, save water and electricity. They watched the videos in the smart board class. Later, they were explained the need to keep two separate dustbins in the classroom to manage waste. They also explored wild animals in the activity African Jungle Safari, and displayed their creative fervor in their scroll depicting Save our Forests.
The next activity planned for our tiny tots was a visit to the herbal garden, where they observed the herbs, their appearance, hues, textures and distinctive fragrances. They also learnt about their importance in nature and how they can be useful as common remedies for cough and cold.

Classes I V also celebrated Environment Week. Through the week, the morning the assembly began with the chorus I will be a Defender of my Planet. As a part of the Citizenship programme, every Wednesday, has been set aside as Recycling Day, where students and staff bring in dry waste from home. The Green Planeteers of classes 4 and 5 go round the classes collecting it and depositing the same in distinctive bins. The waste is then sent for recycling to a 'trash to cash' programme. The money thus collected is contributed as Shramdaan.
During this week, each class planned a set of different activities that will go a long way in orienting the children about protecting the environment and help them make informed choices.
The activities were as follows:
Class I
i). Kabaad Se Jugaad
ii). Show and Tell about one plant product.
