Ecological footprint versus Population- spreading awareness by class 6

The concept of ecological footprint is defined as “the impact of human activities measured in terms of the area of biologically productive land and water required to produce the goods consumed and to assimilate the wastes generated. It measures the biologically productive area needed to provide for everything that people demand from nature: fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, wood, cotton and other fibres, as well as the absorption of carbon dioxide from fossil fuel burning and space for buildings and roads.”

With the increase in population, the availability of all resources is decreasing at a rapid speed. The need of sustainable development is increasing day by day and it has become inevitable to sensitise students about the same.

The students of class 6 of The Indian School- Second Shift participated in a special activity Ecological, titled Ecological, Ecological Footprint versus Population poster making. Students were introduced to the concept and a classroom discussion was held to encourage them to brainstorm about the same. They then made informative and attractive posters showing how the effects of human activity on Earth has affected the ecological footprint and what measures can be taken to reduce the damaging effects. They also took a pledge to reduce energy consumption and spread awareness about the same amongst their family and friends.
