Dussehra celebrations in Class 1
Celebrating festivals is an integral part of learning at the primary level. Through such celebrations, students not only learn the significance of the festival but also learn to embrace other traditions and culture just like their own.
As we know, Dussehra is an important Indian festival celebrated on the tenth day of the month of Ashwin according to the Hindu calendar.
The students of class 1 at The Indian School-Second Shift celebrated Dussehra with much fervour. The occasion marking the victory of Lord Rama over the evil king, Ravana, reinforced the message of the triumph of good over evil.
The students were shown the story of Dussehra virtually. This was followed by a bhajan ‘Hey Ram’ and a presentation on why we celebrate Dussehra. Students brainstormed and discussed the various 'evils' prevalent in the current scenario and how as young ones, they can help to make people more aware and cautious about them. The students also crafted masks, crowns, puppets and sketches of Ravana in the virtual class.
The day was filled with learning in fun. The students learned about the values of respect, humility and obedience and honesty which are the core of the great epic, the Ramayana. The celebration was enjoyed by all.
