Diwali celebrations across the classes

Diwali is the festival of lights that is celebrated across India. “Deepawali” literally means an “array of lights”. To explain the significance of this important festival the students, TFS held a virtual celebration on 2nd November 2021.

The children of Pre School presented a special assembly on Diwali. The programme started with the children, in turn, speaking a few lines about the festival, sharing information on when and why it is celebrated. The children demonstrated how to celebrate Diwali in an eco-friendly way by lighting clay diyas, decorating the house and creating pretty rangolis.

The children of Pre Primary made elegant lanterns and colourful paper diyas. The students dressed up as the characters from the Ramayana gave the message of victory of good over evil.

Students of classes 1 and 2 painted clay diyas and decorated them with recycled materials like bindis, sequins, mirrors and pencil shavings. Students also made diyas using colourful origami sheets. A pledge- “Say No to Crackers” was also taken by them.

Class 3 celebrated Diwali by organising a virtual Diwali Mela. The students set up bright and beautiful stalls in their homes selling diyas, candles, bangles, toys, dupattas, etc.

The students presented a special assembly on Diwali. They depicted the story of Lord Rama and his return to Ayodhya after conquering Ravana, in a wonderful skit, thereby spreading the message of the victory of good over evil. The students urged their friends and elders to celebrate a clean, green and safe Diwali. As a part of the celebrations, a Skype session was conducted with the students of Vietnam. The Foundationers performed a scintillating dance and shared how they celebrate Diwali in India.

Class 4 students made this year’s Diwali celebration a lot more proficient as they used STEM building as a part of their activities. Students grouped together the academic disciplines of Mathematics, Science and Technology, to create revamped lamps.

Class 5 students participated in a debate- “Say No to Crackers”. They have also made eco-friendly diyas and festive decorations joining hands with the campaign to “ Say No to Crackers”.  The children discussed various ways of preventing pollution and being responsible citizens of the world.

Class 6 students presented a PPT on Diwali and shared information about how to celebrate an eco–friendly Diwali and shared the harmful effects caused by burning crackers.

Students of class 7 shared knowledge and their experiences regarding the pollution caused by fireworks. They shared the story of stray dogs hiding under shelters and breathing problems caused by burning crackers. A poster-making activity was conducted in the class, where students were asked to write slogans relating to stop burning crackers or the harm caused by crackers. Beautiful depictions on the posters by the students reflected their thoughts and knowledge about the pollution caused by the burning of crackers. Scientific as well as creative aspects were included in the activity.

Diwali was celebrated in class 8 with a motivational advertisement to inspire students to encourage people to buy Diwali decorations from local vendors.

Both the learners and the educators enjoyed the virtual Diwali celebrations wholeheartedly.
