Dance demonstration by a Kathak exponent for Janmashtami

The festival of Janmasthami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna, was commemorated at a special assembly by the children of PS-Bulbul and PP-Dove on August 24th 2016. Ms. Drishti Bedi and Ms. Mary DSouza started the proceedings by narrating the incidents around the birth of Lord Krishna in prison and how he grew up to love butter. This set the tone for the celebrations of this special day.

The programme included a short skit depicting scenes from the birth of Lord Krishna. This was followed by an enthralling dance presentation choreographed to Madhuban mein jo Kanhaiya by the little Radhas dressed in their vibrant costumes, giving a glimpse of Vrindavan, the place of Lord Krishna's childhood. The young Krishna stole everyones heart!

Next on schedule, were melodious songs Chori chori maakhan khaye gayo re, and Chhoti chhoti gaiyya sung by the tiny tots.

Head Teacher, Ms. Susan Thomas, lauded the students for their active participation in the celebrations before the assembly concluded with the national anthem.

The School corridor echoed with the sounds of Janmashtami. Little matki crafts by the children dripping with ( make belief)! maakhan were on display. However, the special attraction of the day were our little pre schoolers who came to School looking adorable, dressed as little Krishnas and Radhas, drawing widespread applause and appreciation from one and all!

In the Primary section Ms. Richa Jain and her group conducted a dance demonstration to depict the life of Lord Krishna, including his childhood prank of stealing butter!

The workshop began with the bhajan Achutum Keshwaram. Witnessing Ms. Richa's dance performance was a treat to the soul. It was so appealing visually, musically and aesthetically. Her footwork, rhythm and grace held the entire audience captive. Those in the corridors simply gravitated towards the auditorium as they heard the foot tapping melody! Young as the students were, they were spell bound. Ms. Jain's introduction of the dance steps and the involvement of the audience made the performance interactive, creating immense learning value.
