Classes 8 and 9 visit Nehru Planetarium for an intro to ISRO's Gaganyaan Mission

On 7 December 2023, the students of classes VIII and IX embarked on an educational journey to the Nehru Planetarium for an immersive session titled ‘Lift Off’. The session focused on India's prestigious Gaganyaan Mission, a human spaceflight programme by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The mission's goal was to demonstrate human spaceflight capability by launching a crew of three astronauts into a 400 km orbit for a three-day mission. The crew will then be safely returned to Earth by landing in Indian sea waters. The objective of attending the session was to deepen the understanding of space exploration and kindle the students' interest in the scientific wonders beyond our atmosphere.

The session commenced with an enlightening presentation on India's Gaganyaan Mission. Students were captivated by the details of the ambitious project aimed at sending Indian astronauts to space. The visual aids and interactive elements employed during the presentation provided a comprehensive insight into the challenges, preparations, and significance of this landmark mission.

One of the highlights of the visit was the mesmerising showcasing of the Sun's projection through a specialised projecting device. Students were enthralled as they witnessed the intricate details of the sunspots and solar flares. The visual representation sparked curiosity and discussions among the students about the sun's pivotal role in our solar system.

The engagement continued with a hands-on activity on hydro rocketry, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. Guided by experienced instructors, the students constructed and launched hydro rockets. This activity not only reinforced their understanding of basic Physics principles but also instilled a sense of teamwork and problem-solving.

A vibrant question and answer session followed, providing students with an opportunity to interact directly with experts at the planetarium. Queries ranged from the technical aspects of the Gaganyaan spacecraft to the daily routines of astronauts in space. The interactive nature of the session fostered a dynamic learning environment and encouraged active participation.

The visit to Nehru Planetarium proved to be an enriching experience for the students of classes VIII and IX. The ‘Lift Off’ session not only illuminated the intricacies of the Gaganyaan Mission but also kindled a passion for space exploration among the students. The combination of multimedia presentations, hands-on activities, and interactive discussions made the visit a resounding success, leaving the students inspired and eager to explore the boundless mysteries of the universe.
