Classes 6-9 observe Earth Day
"The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it." Robert Swan
Earth Day is an annual event observed worldwide on 22nd April to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The main aim of this is to raise awareness about the depleting quality of the environment and to nurture a sense of urgency to protect the environment and start bringing the change ourselves.
The students of classes 6-9 presented a special assembly to observe the occasion. The Earth Day assembly commenced with the School choir singing a melodious song on the need to save Mother Earth. This was followed by an informative skit, ‘Our Earth, Our Responsibility', which showed how Mother Earth is getting polluted and in order to bring in a change, we must first change our routine habits.
An interactive session was conducted by social science teacher, Ms Garima Jagpal, prompting students to ideate innovative measures that we can take to protect the environment. Last but not the least, the students pledged to safeguard Earth and make it a better place to live in. The young future citizens promised to implement simple remedial measures in their day-to-day lives and to spread the message of sustainable development, starting from their own homes.
The assembly concluded with Headmistress Ms Sheeja Menon's message, emphasising on the imminent need to practise measures to restore nature and build a healthy planet. She urged the students to be more responsible and caring towards the environment.
At The Indian School-Second Shift, we believe and promote the idea that every day should be dedicated to our mother planet. Her protection and nourishment ought to be a continuous process, and not just an annual ritual. Undoubtedly, it is only ‘WE’ who can bring about this change that we wish to see.
