Classes 3-5 visit the National Crafts Museum

“A nation's culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people.” Mahatma Gandhi

In keeping with our School objective of nurturing students through holistic learning experiences, an educational excursion was organised for the students of classes III to V to the National Crafts Museum and Hastkala Academy, located at Pragati Maidan, on November 4, 2025. The visit aimed to acquaint the students with India’s rich heritage of traditional art and craftsmanship.

The National Crafts Museum, one of the oldest and finest museums of Delhi, offered the students a fascinating journey through India’s artistic traditions. They explored various galleries such as the Tribal and Rural Crafts Gallery, Gallery of Popular Culture, Textile Gallery, and Gallery of Courtly Crafts, each displaying unique aspects of India’s creative spirit.

An audio-visual show was organised for the children, giving them an insight into how natural colours and dyes are made from materials like turmeric, pomegranate peel, and indigo.

The Textile Gallery was a highlight, showcasing exquisite handwoven fabrics like Kanjeevaram silk, Banarasi brocade, Bandhani, Ikat, Patola, Baluchari, Phulkari, and Chikankari. The students were fascinated by the intricate embroidery and weaving techniques.

The pottery section offered a hands'-on experience, where the students joyfully tried their hands at clay modelling under the guidance of skilled artisans. The outdoor village complex comprises a recreated rural Indian setting with traditional huts, terracotta sculptures, and murals painted by folk artists. The young visitors were also delighted to witness a live Chhau dance performance, which vividly portrayed India’s folk traditions through graceful movements and vibrant costumes.

The excursion was a truly enriching experience, blending learning with joy and instilling in students a deep sense of pride in India’s cultural and artistic heritage.
