Classes 1 to 5 celebrate World Heritage Day

“A country which does not cherish its heritage loses its future as well.” Narendra Modi

World Heritage Day is observed on 18th April every year to raise global awareness about preserving cultural, historical and monumental heritage, around the world. The day was first proposed by ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) in 1982. The young students at The Indian  School-Second Shift observed the occasion with great enthusiasm.

The little ones of class 1 participated in an interesting activity, where they had to identify various Indian festivals and historical places, which were shown to them on the smart board. They not only enjoyed the brainstorming but also learnt about India’s cultural richness.

Students of class 2 engaged in activities aimed at promoting and preserving our country's cultural heritage. They began by watching an educational video and then created vibrant posters to showcase the importance of the day.

Delving deeper into the celebration, the students of class 3 made paintings of Indian monuments, which they had visited, and also shared interesting facts about them. This interactive session allowed them to appreciate the rich history behind each monument.

In class 4, students showcased their creativity by making collages including Indian festivals, folk dances, classical dances, food and historical places to commemorate World Heritage Day. Their artistic expressions served as a powerful reminder of the need to preserve our shared cultural and natural heritage.

The students of class 5 participated in a quiz designed to test their knowledge of various UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India. The multiple-choice questions encouraged students to explore their historical context, architectural styles, and cultural significance.

The World Heritage Day celebrations brought together students from the primary classes to honour the past, celebrate the present, and inspire action for the future. By engaging in artistic expression and educational activities, students gained a deeper appreciation for our rich cultural heritage. The aim was to inculcate in the young minds the need to be aware of the heritage of India and to safeguard it for the future.
