The students of class 6 accompanied by their English teacher Ms Kanika Batheja had an interactive session with Ms Nina Matthews and her students at the Montsaye Academy, Rothwell, UK on 30 April 2021.
The session was based on a Reading Project named ‘Let’s Co-Learn! India and UK. The purpose of this collaboration was to foster the habit of pleasure reading, whilst improving our cultural awareness.
The session commenced with an introduction and greeting. The groups on both sides spoke about their respective schools.
The guest school shared its e-booklet curated by students, based on their love for reading They also shared book recommendations, like “The Bread Winner" by Deborah Ellis, “Noughts and Crosses" by Malorie Blackman and more such. The students across the screen presented book reviews of authors around the world. The session filled with special excitement when the students identified their interest in common books and authors like “The Kite Runner" by Khalid Hosseini, “When You Reach Me" by Rebecca Stead” and so on.
Accelerating the connection to make this world full of avid readers, our students also presented their ideas on the importance of reading, the joy of flipping through those pages filled with emotion and thoughts, values and plots. Our students presented a book review of the titles, “I Can Make This Promise" by Christine Day, “Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson and “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L Frank Baum for their friends across the screen.
As the session ended, both the groips of peers promised to meet again with more more sessions such as this. On the special request of the guest school, the meeting concluded with greeting each other with “Namaste”!
