Celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day across the classes

Nelson Mandela is one of the greatest personalities and awe-inspiring leaders, one who gave a new meaning to revolution. In homage, Nelson Mandela Day is observed globally on 18 July every year. As a mark of respect and gratitude, our enthusiastic Indianities also shared in the tribute to the great leader. All the class levels participated energetically in special activities on the occasion.
The little munchkins of Pre school did a hand printing activity and sang a song named "On Nelson Mandela Day, we remember him in this way", which was based on compassion and the belief in serving others.
The tiny tots of Pre Primary discussed the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela with their class teacher. They were told about the sacrifices made by both. It helped the children understand that it only takes courage to change the world for the better. Later, the children did a hand printing activity in their drawing booklets.
The students of classes 1 and 2 observed the occasion with a discussion on the South African idol and his contribution to the betterment of the community. They explained how Mandela devoted his life for the service of humanity. The young students also wrote down his qualities and famous quotes on colour sheets.
The students of class 3 shared facts and information about Nelson Mandela with their peers in the classroom. A few students presented some famous quotes and explained what they meant.
The students of classes 4 and 5 made posters to illustrate the work of Nelson Mandela. Some students shared presentations describing his journey and the timeless contribution he made for his people.
The students of class 6 drew pencil sketches of Mandela and presented their art in class. They shared their views and opinions about him. The students learned about apartheid and Mandela's struggle to fight it. They also discussed his role as a peacemaker and as recipient of the Nobel Prize.
The students of class 7 made posters, participated in a quiz and wrote Mandela's most inspiring calls for change. These activities taught the childre about the relevance of the ideas and philosophy of Nelson Mandela even today. It enabled them to know how he fulfilled his duty towards his motherland.
The students of classes 8 and 9 wrote a biographical account on the life and struggle of Mandela, on apartheid as well as his contribution in framing the South African constitution.
Mandela played an indispensable role in bringing freedom to a nation that lived in the shadows of racism and white oppression. These manifold activities enabled the young minds to visit his invaluable journey which fostered the building of a harmonious society.
