Annual SCIENCE WEEK at School

“The scientist only imposes two things, namely truth and sincerity, imposes them upon himself and upon other scientists.” – Erwin Schrödinger

The Indian School - Second Shift conducted customary week-long activities to observe Science Week from 7th to 11th August, 2023. The objective was to inculcate a scientific perspective of looking at the world and ignite new interest for science amongst our young future citizens.

During the special week, students of class 3 enthusiastically built a model demonstrating the water cycle. Through hands-on learning, they understood the complex process of evaporation, condensation and precipitation. This activity led to a deeper understanding of the importance of the water cycle in our ecosystem.

Class 4 students participated in a series of activities involving creative and logical thinking at all stages. The children created a replica of the globe using recycled material. They learnt why it is the need of the hour to promote the conservation of the environment with the reuse of waste material like used bottles, strings and ribbons to make artistic designs.

Students of classes 6 and 7 made circles from waste materials and scrap, and learnt how to work with circles. They also made posters on the topic, 'Earth - A Ball of Science'. Students, under the supervision of their science teacher, conducted interesting science experiments using a magnet, and explained related scientific principles  through them.

Class 8 students discussed Chandrayaan 3, its creation, journey and its landing on the moon. As a part of art-integrated activity, they made a model of Chandrayaan 3, and also discussed the movie, 'Mission Mangal', in class.

Class 9 students built a model of an insulator and a conductor, and discussed the concept in detail. It helped them gain a practical understanding of the theory that they had read about.

A quiz was conducted in class 10 to test the knowledge of acids, bases and salts and their properties. Through the quiz, the students recapitulated the topic well.

The activities were specially curated to highlight examples of the contribution of science in our day to day lives. Although science is factual, but scientific discoveries are a consequence of curiosity, experimentation and innovation. Thus, the celebration of Science Week at The Indian School - Second Shift focused on enriching the minds of students with curiosity and innovative ideas, especially in the field of Science, where the scope is limitless.
