Activities on the occasion of Janamashtami and the lessons from it

Janamashtami is associated with the birth of Lord Krishna, one of the most powerful and famous reincarnations of Lord Vishnu. This was celebrated joyfully at The Indian School-Second Shift on August 18, 2022.

On the occasion of Janmashtami, students of Pre School dressed up as Radha-Krishna and presented a dance to the popular song, ‘Chhoti Chhoti Gaiya.’ They made paper matkis and crowns with decorative materials.

Students of Pre Primary beautifully dressed up as Radha-Krishna and the playmates of Bal Krishna. Songs associated with the occasion were played and sung by the little ones. Here too the children decorated matkis and peacock feather crowns.

Class I students presented the song, ‘ ’ to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna. The boys came dressed Krishna and the girls as Radha. They crafted artistic matkis and flutes in their art files. The students were told about the significance of this special day in a story telling session.

Class II students celebrated Janamashtami with self crafted flutes and matkis.

The students of class III decorated clay matkis with vivid colours, mirrors and ribbons. The festival teaches humility, generosity and forgiveness and the timeless tale of the friendship of Krishna and Sudama was told to the children to demonstrate these values.

The students of class IV made matkis, painted and decorated with colours and stickers. The children also celebrated the occasion singing and dancing to popular 
Janamashtami songs.

The students of class V made beautiful torans showcasing the flute and matki and the various ornaments relating to Lord Krishna. They discussed the values propounded by Lord Krishna.

The students of class VI shared stories of Krishna that they have been growing up listening to portraying the victory of good over evil.

The students of class VII,  participated in various activities like poster making and quiz based on the Bhagwad Geeta and a class discussion on why we celebrate Janamashtami They also made artistic posters on the activity, Dahi Handi.

The students of classes VIII and IX engaged in a class discussion about Janamashtami’s message of spreading cheer and sharing.

Everyone participated in such abundant enthusiasm that the whole environment glistened with festivity.
