Activities on Gurupurab

The 552nd Prakash Purb was celebrated virtually on 18 November, 2021.

The aim of education is to gain new knowledge and live life as one should. Keeping this in mind, the Pre School students started the day with the song ‘Satnam Satnam bol’. Teachers  narrated a story ‘Sachcha Sauda’. Children made ‘kalgi’ with paper, crayons and recycled material.

The students of the Pre Primary classes commenced class by chanting ‘Ek Omkar.’ The teachers narrated a story about Guru Nanak Dev and emphasised the path of honesty. The students also sketched some beautiful drawings of the great Guru.

Since the roots of festivals lie in history and tradition, the students of class 1 celebrated the auspicious occasion discussing the significance of this day and the rituals associated with it. They made beautiful cards with paper quilling and noted down the teachings of Guru Nanak on them. They were also taken on a virtual tour of the magnificent Golden Temple in Amritsar.

It is said that the greatness of a culture can be found in its festivals. A video on Guru Nanak Dev was shown to classes 2 and 3. The teachers told the children about the life of Guru Nanak, the significance of the ‘Prabhat Pheris’ and the ‘Nagar Kirtan.’ The students dressed up as the Gurus to celebrate the festival.

The students of class 4 made alluring wall hangings on Guru Purab initiating a good ritual towards incorporating positivity and optimism in their lives.

Feast and festivals are a feature of all major religions. The students of class 5 made ‘Kada Prasad’ with the help of their parents and shared the sweetness of Omnism, through an activity with their families. They were shown a short film on the teachings of Guru Nanak.

‘He who has no faith in himself can never have faith in God’ - Guru Nanak Dev. A video was shown on the significance of the festival in classes 6, 7 and  8. The students also shared their experience as to how they celebrate it. This helped in enhancing their knowledge about our festivals, customs and traditions. Later  a quiz was conducted with questions relating to the festival and its importance.

As they say The, our festivals give us a rainbow for every tear, a promise for every care, and an answer to every prayer.
