'International Day of Eradication of Poverty' activities

“Dignity For All In Practice” is the umbrella theme for International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, 2022-2023. The dignity of the human being is not only a fundamental right in itself, but constitutes the basis of all other fundamental rights. Therefore, “Dignity” is not an abstract concept; it belongs to each and every one. Today, many people living in persistent poverty experience their dignity being denied and disrespected.

Social protection programmes in India have helped reduce poverty significantly, but they are not without their problems. COVID-19 reversed the gains and has plunged millions into further poverty, disrupting the informal economy and hitting migrant labourers the hardest. Schemes like MGNREGA are being sought out by the government and desperate citizens to tackle unemployment.

On account of this day, a skit was enacted by the students of class VI to spread awareness about hunger and poverty. They got an opportunity to acknowledge the struggles of people living in poverty.

The students of class VII wrote slogans to raise the concerns of poverty stricken people.

The students of classes VIII and IX discussed various measures required to eradicate poverty in India as poverty is a multidimensional phenomenon that is not limited to being financially needy but lacking the necessary capabilities to live with dignity.

Thus, students were sensitised about the importance of raising public awareness at all levels. Also the shared responsibility to eradicate poverty and combat all forms of discrimination.
