National Moon Day activities across the classes

When Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon’s cratered surface, he declared, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”. Every nation on Earth seemed to breathe a collective sigh of relief.

National Moon Day celebrates not only the historic lunar landing on July 20, 1969, but also the great effort and application that was required to get the space programme literally off the ground. On National Moon Day, we remember both the quirky and profound moments in the space race that ended with the Americans being the first to hoist their flag on the moon.

National Moon Day celebrates the occasion when Neil Armstrong first walked on the moon in 1969. The moon landing inspired scientific research and was a symbol of human achievement. The space vessel that landed on the moon was called ‘Apollo 11’, whose crew included Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins.

To commemorate this year’s National Moon Day, our Pre school children did moon craft with foil printing. They also learnt about the phases of the moon by doing a fun activity using an Oreo biscuit.

The tiny tots of Pre Primary made moons with foil dabbing and pasting of foil paper on cutouts of the moon.

Class 1 observed Moon Day with a lot of enthusiasm. Students discussed the significance of this day with their peers. They also sang songs like ‘I see the moon’ and ‘At night, the moon comes out to play.’ They recycled round cotton pads to depict the moon on a coloured sheet.

Class 2 students participated in a Moon Day Activity where they made half moons and decorated them beautifull.

Students of class 3 indulged in creative activity as they curated the phases of the moon. It emphasised how the moon affects gravity on Earth. The children learnt the concept of rotation and revolution.

The students of class 4 gathered information on Neil Armstrong and created beautiful posters with pictures of the moon.

The students of class 5 celebrated this day with a class discussion about the importance of the moon in our lives. This was followed by a poster-making activity.

Class 6 celebrated National Moon Day by making posters showcasing the different phases of the moon depicting its cycles.

The students of class VII made posters, participated in a quiz organised by the Science Club and were also shown videos of Apollo 11.

National Moon Day marks the day in history when man landed on the moon for the first time. On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 carried two astronauts to the moon. The students thoroughly enjoyed the event and activities organised for them and also learnt numerous fascinating facts about the moon.
