Eco Club training on Plastic Waste Management
ECO CLUB initiatives are a medium through which students can reach out to influence, and engage the community to promote green environmental behaviour.
As part of a summer action plan to deal with pollution, the Delhi government’s environment department has engaged around 2,000 eco-clubs from schools and colleges. The Indian School- Second Shift Eco club teacher, Ms Anupriya Choudhary attended an informative workshop on-‘Single Use Plastic and compliance with Plastic Waste Management, conducted via an online portal on 18th April 2022.
The agenda of the session was to sensitise students about phasing out single-use plastic within their close environment exemplifying School as an example. The Eco-club members are to create awareness of plastic pollution, reuse waste, carbon footprint and achieve a zero garbage waste in schools. The programme facilitated the participants with resourceful information especially in-depth knowledge regarding the phasing out of the plastic.
Awareness was spread to the masses regarding a plastic-free life and the suggested usage of alternate means like jute bags, copper bottles, eco-friendly files and folders, eco-friendly food boxes etc. Usage of plastics should be stopped in canteens, shopping complexes in the institution premises and hostels.
Through the programme, awareness was spread to impose a ban on non-biodegradable plastic items in the institution. Various ideas were offered to live a plastic-free life. More alternative solutions like cloth bags and covers were also suggested.
The session concluded as participants were further guided on the path to lead a green and clean environment in the School through various methods. Planned activities were enumerated in order to involve eco-clubs to raise awareness on different issues related to the environment.
In order to facilitate the young learners, various activities were conducted at the classroom level incorporating the knowledge garnered from the workshop.
